I know, I know...I'm such an eco-slacker!! It's been hectic this past week and it's about to get unruly! As you may be aware...or not...my son will be a year on Earth Day! We've been cramming trying to get the house in order and most importantly our backyard! Anywho- here is the weekly eco-wrap up!!! Also, remember to check out the La Mama Naturale' page!!
I'm not talking the infamous Sesame Street...even though, Elmo seems to capture my son's attention like no other character on television! Today, we were watching Bob The Builder and Bob was teaching his friends about composting and recycling! This is the second episode, we've seen related to the environment. I love that children's cartoons and books are incorporating ways children can relate to going green! So, while visiting the PBS Kids site I found out about Eeko World!! OMG...what a wonderful way for children to learn about our precious environment. It seriously needs to be a television show!!! Your child can learn about the environment, all the ecosystem (my fav), garbage & recycling, air & water, plants & animals, the future-what will happen to the environment if we don't stop polluting it,and the Eeko Exchange where your child can get involved!!! Plus 2 games -EekoHouse and EekoCreatures and a few other activities for your child to enjoy.
Designed for ages 6-9 to learn about the important role they can have in taking care of the earth.
EekoWorld will:
introduce children to the basic elements of ecosystems; foster an increased awareness of pollution producers; display the effects of pollution on plants and animals, as well as the land, air and water; examine both local and global conservation acts; highlight innovative and creative technologies that minimize pollution; encourage collaboration and community efforts to improve the environment; foster the sharing of conservation efforts and ideas in the moderated EekoExchange Forum.
The Web site also includes specially designed lesson plans, designed for use in the K-4 classroom, as well as family projects and activities, designed for use in the home and out-of-school settings.
It's a great interactive way to teach your child fun ways to help save the earth! Again, this would make a great television show!!
I <3 PBS! http://pbskids.org/eekoworld/index.html
" WE ADD UP is a global campaign using organic cotton t-shirts that literally counts you in in the fight against global warming. Every shirt is printed by hand with a unique number. YOUR number represents your place in the sequential global count of all the people who are taking steps to help stop climate change. As the count grows, we demonstrate to the world that WE ADD UP. On the back of each shirt is a word or phrase that describes an action almost anyone can take to reduce their carbon footprint - the contribution their lifestyle makes to greenhouse gases - such as, Unplug, Lights Off, Carpool, Hybrid, Bike, Buy Local, and 18 others. You choose which action you are committed to doing and get counted in. No one can do everything. Everyone can do something. And, WE ADD UP.
Our goal is to get millions of people around the world counted in and committed to helping stop global warming. With our combined effort, we can create a healthy, thriving world for generations to come. So, get counted in. Because you + everyone else = change."
Get counted in today...
Choose from t-shirts, tote bags, mugs, water bottles and kids t-shirts are available too!
